Watermelon Wine Recipe

  1. Pour the watermelon puree into a large pot and heat until it reaches a boil.
  2. Add 3 pounds of sugar and stir until it dissolves.
  3. Bring the mixture back up to a boil, then remove it from the heat source to let the mixture cool.
  4. Once the mixture has cooled, add your wine yeast and stir well.
  5. Pour the mixture into your fermentation bucket.
  6. Add water to top it off if needed.
  7. Put the lid on your fermentation bucket, making sure it is entirely shut.
  8. Store in a cool, dark place and let ferment for 14 days.
  9. After 14 days, take the hydrometer reading and make sure the wine has reached a specific gravity of 1.000 or below.
  10. If it has not reached this gravity, let it ferment for another 7 days or so and check again.
  11. Once the wine has reached the desired gravity, siphon it into bottles using a siphon or cheesecloth to strain out any particles.
  12. Store the bottles in a cool, dark place for at least 2 months before drinking.
  13. Enjoy your own homemade Watermelon Wine!

Additional Tips On Making Watermelon Wine:

  1. For a more intense watermelon flavor, add 1/2 cup of fresh watermelon juice to the carboy during fermentation.
  2. You can also add flavorings to the wine during fermentation or after bottling. Some popular flavors include honey, ginger, and mint.
  3. To sanitize your equipment, soak it in a solution of 1 tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water for 10 minutes. Rinse well with hot water before using.
  4. If you’re not going to drink all of the wine right away, you can store it in a cold, dark place like a refrigerator or wine cellar. But be aware that over time, the wine will oxidize and lose its flavor.
