It would be nice, if you put the basic ingredients in print…. so we can see and order them.

Very good point, thanks for the feedback.

      The full recipe was:
9 LB. (3/4 of a gallon) of clover honey
9 LB. (3/4 of a gallon) of premium blue weber agave syrup
5 LB. of honey malt, crushed
      Water until 5-6.5 gallons full
One packet of Pure turbo yeast or the yeast/nutrient of your choosing

Doesn’t hot water denature the enzymes in the malt? How can you get a true starting gravity with all that grain in the tube?

    • Evan October 2, 2023 at 6:26 amLog in to Reply

      Hey, Chip.

      1. I’m honestly not sure, but I’ve never heard of that. That could definitely be true, but I had no issues with achieving a decent conversion this way.

      2. Originally, the plan was to run with the grains in my boiler. So, that would’ve been my true SG reading since it was all meant to go in the boiler for distilling. I personally am not sure how much my ABV reading was actually affected by the (relatively) small amount of grains in my test jar, but I believe it’s a small change in the reading? Not really sure. Appreciate the post, very good points.

      Thanks
      Boo

All the tequila snobs are cringing…. GRAIN in a tequila? Honey? Blasphime!!! Also surprised you went with a turbo yeast – I have never had success with that stuff – too many off flavors. Interested to see how it turns out.
