I’m very satisfied with the quick shipping of this product. The only issue was the broken test jar, but that was replaced and received in just a couple of days. Thank you, MileHiDistilling!
Now, this is my first still and I have no experience to share about other things. However, this was easy to fit together and get running. So far, I’ve only done a cleaning run (water+vinegar) and used it to learn about the process on this still. The needle valve can be a little difficult to control the water flow, but overall it’s very straight forward and easy to use. I’m sure with a bit more practice and some tweaks this can be incredible.
This is an amazing product! This is the second electric still I have purchased. The first one had a constant fuse issue. I have only used this one for a few runs, but the consistency and potency of the final product is amazing! Only thing that would help- handles on the kettle to make moving it around easier. I don’t have it set high enough up to use the spigot to empty it, handles would make that easier. Also we had some issue with the seal between the lid and the column. We used some gasket material and got a tighter seal- very easy fix. Shipment was super fast, as always.
I could not be happier with my Turbo 500 (With copper condenser).
I am a newbie. I have never distilled before and I have never seen it done except on Youtube.
I just finished my 2nd run. I am consistently getting 90%ABV on a sugar wash. I proof mine down to 80 Proof. On a 25 liter wash at just under Starting 14 ABV I got 8.75 liters of alcohol. It is true, there are no heads and no tails to worry about (except of course the foreshot). First and last was the same great quality. I have not yet proofed my 2nd run, but I got a quart jar more at a starting 17.5875 ABV.
Based on my previous favorite beverage, the ingredient cost is right at 10%, From 50 down to 5 for a 1.75L bottle.
I have to admit I am (personally) not a huge fan of the stand alone taste of alcohol. Mix it with Ginger Ale and it is like drinking lemonade.
For other newbies, Make sure your hoses are controlled/contained and be prepared to pay attention to the temperature. In my case the 4 hours of production time was pretty much constant checking with an occasional 5-10 minute break when it was going smoothly.. Make sure you can dedicate the time.
2 hours prep (I break my Turbo down between runs), 4 hours production, 1 hour cleanup.
And that was with no experience.
